Explore the equipment
The electrolyte is a solid polymer film rather than a liquid, conducting protons from anode to cathode while holding the product gases apart. A cell is that membrane with its catalyst and porous transport layers; between cells sit bipolar plates, which make the series connection and carry a flow field on each face, and the assembly is clamped between end plates as a stack. Around it sit the rectifier, a demineralised water circuit with its circulation pump, cooling and ion exchange polishing, and separators that drop entrained water out of the gas. Installations are skid-mounted or containerised, with gas detection and ventilation, sited by hazardous-area classification, separation from occupied buildings and ignition sources, and a vent discharge clear of both.
